NVE’s international activities started more than 50 years ago to assist UN-organizations in developing countries. Since then, NVE has acquired a vast experience and knowledge in development assistance, especially through assignments for NORAD during the past 30 years.
The International Section in NVE was created in 1980’s responding to the demand of NORAD for international assistance in developing countries. The main tasks of the International Section are administration and coordination, including project preparation within energy and water resources related fields, and cost and quality control of projects and programmes during the implementation stage. The major part of the technical work is carried out by staff from the various technical departments and sections of NVE.
During 2008 a total of 62 persons were involved in the international assignments, compared to 46 in the previous year. In addition, private consultants and professionals from other directorates and research institutions were sub-contracted to assist NVE when NVE was either temporarily short of capacity or lacked competence.
