Mass balance measurementsWinter, summer and net balance is measured at 14 glaciers in Norway (2009). Results are published annual reports (Glaciological investigations in Norway). Fourty-two different glacier basins have been monitored for at least one year since measurementsstarted at Storbreen in 1949. Link to Mass balance measurements.
Length change observationsNVE and other individuals or institutions measure length change at around 30 glaciers. Link to Glacier length change observations.
Glacier inventoryNVE is currently mapping the number and area of Norwegian glaciers breenes utbredelse using remote sensing techniques. The main source is Landsat-images supported by digital terraine models (DTMs) and recent aerial photographs (www.norgeibilder.no).
Our results are reported to the international glacier database World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) and GLIMS (Global Land Ice Measurements from Space).
