More than 2600 km² of Norway is covered by glaciers. About 60 % of the glacier area is in south Norway.

Glaciological investigations in Norway in 2009
The series 'Glaciological Investigations in Norway' has been published since 1963, and has been in English since the 2001 volume. In this report results from measurements of mass balance, length change, glacier velocity, micro-meteorology and other investigations undertaken in 2009 are described. Subglacial workshop at Engabreen, Svartisen, 25th - 26th March 2009
Svartisen subglacial observatory is situated under 200 m of ice under the outlet glacier Engabreen from Svartisen ice cap in northern Norway. The objective of the workshop was to bring together those who have worked here previously with those who have done similar work elsewhere or plan to do so. 60 years of mass balance measurements at Storbreen in Jotunheimen
The mass balance measurements started in 1949, as the second mass balance glacier in the world after Storglaciaren in Sweden, where measurements started in 1946. Since the measurements started, the glacier volume has decreased by 20 %.
