The power situation week 8 2010

03.03.2010 | 14:00

Record high prices. The average weekly price of week 8 was record high in all the Nordic market areas except in Soutwest-Norway and Jylland.

The weekly price was highest in Middle-Norway. In this area the prices was 140,4 øre/kWh. It is 7 øre higher than in North-Norway and 48 øre higher than in Southeast-Norway. In Southwest-Norway the weekly price was significantly lower – 51,4 øre/kWh.

The price increase is related to high consumption and low hydro power production due to low inflow and reservoir level. In addition, the Swedish nuclear power stations run at reduced capacity. Cold weather contributed to especially high prices at the beginning of the week. Monday last week the daily price in Middle- and North-Norway was 408,9 øre/kWh. It is close to twice as high as the price Friday 8th of January, which until last week was the highest observed daily price at Nord Pool.
