The power situation week 28, 2010

Increased precipitation and reduced power prices. Last week the precipitation was equivalent to 4.1 TWh, which is almost twice the median for the week.

This week, the expected precipitation is 3.5 TWh, which is 60 percent above median. The reservoir level was 58.9 percent at the end of week 28, which is an increase of 2.9 percentage points from the week before. This is 16.8 percentage points below the median level for the week and 7.7 percentage points below last year’s level. Together with increased power demand from the east, the wet weather contributed to an increased power production of 2.8 percentage points from the week before. Norway had a net export of 157 GWh last week.

The average price of electrical power was last week 37.7 øre/kWh in all the Norwegian elspot areas. This is a reduction of 3-4 percent from the week before. The forward contract for the 4th quarter 2010 and 1st quarter 2011 was last Friday traded at 37.9 and 38.9 øre/kWh at Nord Pool. This is a decrease of 5 percent from the week before.
