The power situation week 50 2011

21.12.2011 | 14:00

More equal power prices in Norway.

In week 50 there were only two different power prices in Norway; East-, Southwest- and West-Norway had equal prices all week, while the Central- and Northern-Norway also had equal prices.

In the weeks before, there were four to five different prices for power in Norway.

The level of water of the Norwegian water reservoirs decreased by 1.8 percentage points, to 81.8 percent at the end of the week. Thus, the filling was reduced two weeks in a row. At the same time, the difference between the highest and lowest power prices the last two weeks has been smaller than the weeks before.

All this, reduced water reservoir levels, more equal prices over the day and night, and more Elspot areas with identical prices, is well-known pattern for the power situation in the wintertime. The development is thus a normalization after the situation in November and the start of December, when weather was mild and the inflow to the hydro power plants higher than normal.

The Power situation report will not be published next week, however reservoir levels will be published at www.nve.no on Wednesday as usual.
