Large increase in power prices throughout the Nordic countries.
The temperatures were much lower in week 5 compared to week 4. This contributed to increased power consumption and higher power prices in all the Nordic countries. Compared to week 4 the prices increased by 50 percent in several elspot-areas. This resulted in higher prices compared to the same week one year ago.
Reduced nuclear power production in Sweden also contributed to the increase in power prices. The Swedish nuclear reactors Oskarshamn 1, 2 and Ringhals 2, with a total installed effect of 2700 MW, were all planned to be back in operation during last week, but the start-up has been delayed. The shutdown of the nuclear power reactor Forsmark 3 contributed to particularly high power prices in all the Nordic countries from Wednesday to Friday.
