Precipitation above normal and reduced power prices. Week 29 was, as the previous week, characterized by precipitation above normal.
The amount of precipitation equals 3.6 TWh power production, which is 60 percent above normal. Also this week is the expected precipitation above normal. The precipitation surplus compensates to a certain degree the fact that the snow melt this year is almost over, due to the small amounts of snow in the mountains last winter.
The reservoir level was 61.7 percent at the end of week 29, which is an increase of 2.8 percentage points from the week before. This is 18.1 percentage points below the median level for the week and 7.8 percentage points below last year’s level.
Together with lower fuel costs, reduced power consumption and increased Swedish nuclear power production, contributed the wet weather to a fall in the power prices of 5-7 percent in all the Scandinavian elspot areas. The average price of electrical power was last week 34.9 øre/kWh in all the three southernmost Norwegian elspot areas, while the price was 35.5 øre/kWh in Mid and North Norway.
