The Norwegian power production increased by 26.7 percent the first week of 2012, compared with week 52 in 2011.
That gave a power production of 3177 GWh. In West-Norway, the increase was 11 percent, while the other elspot areas had an increase of about 30 percent.
The increased production was, among else, caused by increased power consumption after the Christmas holiday. The power consumption increased by 12 percent, which resulted in a total consumption of 2957 GWh.
The increase in the power production was greater than the increase in the power consumption in all of the Norwegian elspot areas. Because of that, Norway was net exporter of power in week 1, after being net importer in week 52.
As a total, Norway imported power during the nights and exported during daytime. In week 52 the net import was 136 GWh, while the net export was 221 GWh in the first week of 2012. Southwest-Norway contributed in particular to the increased Norwegian net exports with an increase of 197 GWh in its net exports. Much of this power was exported to Sweden via the Eastern-Norway.
