Future Climate and Renewable Energy – Impacts, Risks and Adaptation

Xerxes Nobody and Yvonne Somebody

This guidance both details and provides an example of the format to be used by the authors of extended abstracts for the Nordic and Baltic conference on “Future Climate and Renewable Energy – Impacts, Risks and Adaptation”. Extended abstracts (prepared preferably as Word-document files) should be submitted electronically to ces2010@nve.no by February 1, 2010 at the latest. Any extended abstracts that require revision should then be submitted in final format by May 1, 2010 at the latest.

The extended abstract should be short, clear, concise and written in English with correct spelling and good sentence structure. Important mathematical symbols and equations must be typed and metric symbols used. The length of each extended abstract is limited to 2 pages.

A maximum of one figure or one table can be included. A descriptive caption, including the figure or table number in bold, should be placed directly above the table and below the figure.  The figures or table should be referred to in the text and should be positioned close to where it is first cited.  Please do not place the figure or table at the end of the manuscript.  Please leave a paragraph space between the base of a table and the next text paragraph.

Keep figures as simple as possible for clarity; avoid unnecessary complexity, colouring and excessive details.  Colour will be available for the CD-Rom, but bear in mind that the printed proceedings will be black and white.  Illustrations should be clear and text in illustrations should not be written with less than 10pt font size.  Please do not insert spreadsheet graphics as embedded objects, as this will lead to very large files: instead copy and paste the picture via the clipboard as an enhanced metafile.

The extended abstract must detail the title (in bold, Capital Letters), author’s name(s), affiliation, present address and e-mail address. Acceptable font types are Times New Roman or similar. The text should be 12 point type. This instruction is printed using the 12 point Times New Roman font. The basic page size for the published abstracts is the standard European A4-Format page (21 x 29.7 cm). Set your paper size to A4, and set the margins on each side and at the top and bottom to 250 mm. The text should be single-spaced, with one line space between paragraphs. The text must be justified. Please do not add page numbers to your document, since we will merge all documents and assign page numbers.

If references are necessary, a maximum of 3 references should be used. In the text, references should be cited by the last name of the author and the year of publication, e.g. Rekolainen and Posch (1993) or (Rekolainen and Posch, 1993). If there are more than two authors use “et al.” for other authors, e.g. Lindström et al. (1997). The reference list should be detailed at the end of your extended abstract, organized alphabetically (by the name of the author, followed by the author's initials, year of publication, and other complete information about the published work) and in chronological order. References should not be numbered. Example references are given below:

In order to avoid any last minute changes, it is recommended that the abstract is carefully compiled and thoroughly checked by all authors prior to submission. Contributions, sent by ordinary mail, should be delivered as camera-ready originals on A4 paper format.
