Nordic cooperation

22.07.2010 | 13:00

The energy regulators from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are cooperating through NordREG (Nordic Energy Regulators). The cooperation was initiated several years ago before being formalized in a “Memorandum of Understanding” in 2002.

NordReg has a rotating Presidency with duration of 1 year. The Presidency for 2010 rests with the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate.

The main task for NordREG is to "actively promote the legal and institutional framework and conditions necessary for developing the Nordic and European electricity markets".

The cooperation covers exchange of views and experiences, mapping and analysis of the electricity markets, preparation of common reports and position papers. NordREG may also initiate measures with the aim of further development of the Nordic and the European electricity market.

The basis for the tasks within the NordREG cooperation is, on the one hand, initiatives from the Nordic Council of Ministers, and on the other hand, initiatives from the Nordic regulators. The work is organized through several working groups addressing topics within the wholesale and the end user markets for electricity.
